Freedom to me, is one’s ability to pursue his or her full potential without constraint.

What does freedom mean to you?

The concept of freedom was central to the thinking of the forefathers of the United States, who were the individuals responsible for drafting the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. The idea of freedom was intertwined with the principles of democracy, individual rights, and limited government that they sought to establish.

In the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson wrote that all men are “endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” This famous phrase encapsulates the forefathers’ belief in the inherent right of individuals to live free from tyranny and oppression, and to pursue their own happiness and wellbeing as they see fit.

And so just like water, when free, pursues its full potential, I want to be free.
